Packing List

Different, specific information about the Lusatia Action in the autumn 2019 will little by little be summarized here .

The information below was compiled for the Rhineland Action in the summer 2019 and can
not always be applied 1 to 1 the Lusatia Action in the autumn 2019.

Bring your bikes – the terrain is large (but you may also need it for actions ;-) )…

WHAT TO BRING FOR THE ACTION

After two autumnal actions, Ende Gelände will finally happen in the Summer again! This most likey will result in warmer tempertures, but it can always rain and the nights can still be cold. We will probably be more people again this year – that is great and at the same time an exciting challenge! It is important that you bring the things you need during the action (food and drink, sun protection and cold protection) so that everyone is well taken care of during the action. As well you should bring:

  • Sturdy shoes (preferably hiking boots)
  • Tough, warm, old clothes that may get dirty and are warm enough for the night
  • Rain jacket/cloths and pants
  • Scarf and hat (always practical because they are easier to transport than an extra pullover)
  • A piece of cloth/scarf (useful for many purposes: protection against the cold, against pepper spray and tear gas, bandage…)
  • The signature Ende Gelände dust protection white suits and masks (in case you’ve got hem, if not we will have some for you at the camp)
  • Umbrella (ideally with a political message on them, telescopic/ collapsible)
  • Food (including “real” food and some treats, for about 24 hours as we can’t always guarantee supply of the blockages)
  • A sufficient amount of water (at least 2 liters), for drinking and rinsing your eyes after use of tear gas or similar by the police
  • Re-fillable water bottles (this time we will try to bring water canisters to blockades rather than buying thousands of water bottles, so it is important you have some kind of container with you)
  • Superglue
  • Identity papers in case you wish to identify yourself if you get detained
  • A small amount of money which may come in handy when police detains you and then releases you at a distance from the camp and you may need to make your way back (of course, we will try to provide transportation in this case, but better safe ….)
  • First aid kit for smaller injuries
  • Rescue/thermal blanket (the gold/silver ones) – good against the cold and heat
  • An amount of any medicine you need to take regularly that is sufficient for the period you intend to stay in the action – plus a bit of extra in case you get detained
  • Sleeping bags and/or blanket that can get dirty and keep you warm during the action; we will have straw bags in the camp for you, though.
  • Sleeping mat, that can potentially get dirty
  • Flashlight
  • Tarpaulins to protect you against cold and rain
  • Banners with political messages
  • Lamps and headlamp
  • Some nice and eco-friendly decoration for the place of action
  • Books, playing cards or anything else to keep you busy when in a long-lasting blockade
  • Earphones and (if available) radio or smartphone with radio (to listen to translations)
  • Musical instruments that are not too sensitive (could get dirty or broken)
  • The Ende Gelände Action Noise song lyrics

However, please make sure your baggage is not too heavy in the end – you need to be able to move with it after all (at times possibly quickly).

FOR THE CAMP ITSELF YOU WILL NEED:

We plan to have camp! So please bring with you:

  • tent
  • sleeping bag
  • sleeping mat
  • warm clothes for the night
  • personal items (eg. toiletries, towel)

WHAT NOT TO BRING TO THE ACTION

(leave at home or in the camp/at your hosts)

  • Anything that contains information about yourself and/or other people and that you do not need urgently during the action (e.g. diaries, your normal phones, documents showing medical information)
  • Anything that could be considered a weapon (yes, in doubt please also leave even your beloved Suisse pocket knife in the camp)
  • For the (unlikely) event that police will resort to using pepper spray or tear gas, it is better not to put on make up or lotions with a high content of fat; for the same reason; it is better not to wear contact lenses
  • Camera (there will be enough photographers)
  • And of course, drugs (including alcohol)

IN GENERAL

  • Take something with you that can be used as a radio (smartphone with radio function, radio receiver,…) and earphones to be able to listen to the interpreters during plenums. (Plenums might be in English with translation in other languages.)
